Hello! I am back with another skincare review! Surely some have seen this brand around? I sure have, I have seen it everywhere on Instagram posts with luxury presence all over it. I didn’t think I would get it on my Ipsy Glam Bag Plus subscription (where I get most of my beauty stuff!). The product cost me about $25 USD (excluding tax) along with four other full-sized items. The regular price is $85 USD alone, which yours truly cannot afford haha.
What is Lactic Acid?
According to the EWG.org, lactic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) found in bacterial fermentation or milk fermentation and is normally used as an exfoliant or anti-wrinkle treatment.
What is an AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid)?
AHAs are chemical ingredients commonly found in skincare used for exfoliating, smoothening fine lines/wrinkles, improve skin tone and texture as well as clearing pores. Common AHAs include lactic acid, glycolic acid, citric acid, hydroxycaprylic acid, and hydroxycapric acid. Most AHAs are prone to skin sensitivity which products recommend using sunscreen! What NOT to Do with AHA:
Don’t combine AHA (lactic acid) with retinol and vitamin C as it can be drying and irritating to the skin (according to the Sokoglam Blog- Klog).
Sunday Riley features two of their Good Genes product to cater to different skin types. Here are the differences:
Long story short, lactic acid is more suitable for dry skin type like me and glycolic for oily skin type. Glycolic is also recommended for moderate to severe acne. Check out the website to find out details on which one you should use based on your concern and skin type.

My impressions:
The packaging came in a box with the claims and info written all over it, including the glass bottle. The product was snuggled safely inside the box which is nice when ordering online because it keeps the product safe.
The scent is more fruity than fresh kind of light but doesn’t linger.
The texture is smooth and spreads real easily like lotion. The product is very moisturizing and definitely leaves a soft feeling once it has set.
My thoughts:
I am always on board with a product that improves dullness and texture in my skin I was happy to receive it as part of my routine. I have been using the lactic treatment since May of this year. I use it in place of my nighttime routine as a moisturizer because of the sun sensitivity warning. I can definitely say the product is really good for dry skin, it gives instant hydrating and soft result. I think that it’s too early to say that it has improved my skin tone and acne as I have been breaking out this summer. I’m guessing also from my masks which is mandatory at this time. Maybe even my sheet masks? I’m honestly not sure but I am optimistic that it’s the weather and I do get seasonal acne. I will remain using the lactic treatment as it helps keep my skin moisturized and smooth. I am not sure about repurchasing it full price because the product is beyond my budget.
**UPDATE**
After emptying out the product around October or November of the same year I have considered it a HOLY GRAIL! I found the lactic acid treatment helpful in keeping my blemishes mostly clear and my milia to a minimum. I definitely will be keeping a lookout for deals and discounts for this item so I can repurchase it!
